The project Shades of Gray is the brainchild of Beef Records managers Michal Ruzicka (DJ Schwa) and Nick West. Founded at the end of 2006 the collaboration was developed to reflect Michal and Nick’s diverse musical backgrounds and tastes.
Their first Vinyl release – Simplicity (released in 2007), drew attention from Djs and producers such as Hernan Cattaneo, D‐Nox, Nick and John Dalagelis, Pena, Guy J and more. Early in 2008, four of their tracks were picked up by PlusMinus label founder Juergen Driessen. These tracks were released on a 12′ vinyl and achieved great success reaching the top 10 of the Beatport tech house chart and #3 on decks.de vinyl sales chart.
Next strike of the plusminus label is by swiss talented guy ‘beatsiZe‘, who delivered an outstanding track for his PlusMinus debut. PlusMinus has grown to be a well respected and a high quality label – so I am now using the power of PlusMinus to put the focus on tracks and artists that might be overlooked in today’s digital world. ‘We never stop’ is a deep, tech house affair with clever vocal snippets and a groove that works at anytime of the day and night. The release in
cludes an amazing ‘PIERCE’ (Suburban Slum Remix) with deeper sounds whilst still keeping the original spirit of the track. Last but not least ‘Get it‘ is a perfect addition to continue the PlusMinus emotional psycho edge.
Use your ears… support great music.
2008 has seen producer legend Jürgen Driessen becoming more and more active again, with releases on Mutekki´s sister label ELECTRIBE, which he both runs alongside partner Oliver Klein, Cologne´s BLUFIN and most mentionably starting his very own and personal label playground Plusminus Recordings. After the Shades Of Gray release trilogy recently reached #6 of Beatport´s Tech House Charts and gained the support of countless high-profile DJs, it´s now time for the label owner himself to debut on his imprint.
The “Blueprint EP” includes two highly fashionable dirty and driving Tech House Tracks “Blueprint” and “Dirty Life” that perfectly show that Jürgen still knows how to tweak his machines, plus the highly acclaimed Polder Remix of “Signal”, which was released digitally on Electribe Recordings and will finally see the light of day on vinyl.
Plusminus Recordings is my new label. After having directed Important Records waaaayy back in the days and running Mutekki together with Oliver Klein since 1999, Plusminus is my first very own label, to completely realize myself with a personal label playground. I will have an eye on promising new talents and an ear for fresh sounding productions. Stilistically the label ranges plusminus in the fields of Techno – moody Techno with a psycho edge, as I like to call it.
